Exclusive photos: Fire razes Police barracks in Lagos

Around 11AM on Friday, a wild inferno swept across residential buildings at Ijeh Police Station, in Obalende under the Lagos State Police Command. The fire destroyed properties worth millions of naira belonging to police officers whom mostly have gone out for the day's work.

One policeman who gave his name as Inspector Mike said it took firefighters an hour to arrive the scene:
"It took the fire service more than one hour before they responded to our distress call.

By the time they came, the fire has reduced everything into a rubble. That’s why we drove the fire fighters away."

Another resident named Martina Undie added:
"You can see that all the 24 flats have been completely burnt. We could not salvage anything."
No lives were lost in the incident but according to eyewitness, a man who was taken to hospital "got some serious burns on his body."

In September 2014, fire destroyed 40 flats in the Ijeh Police barracks during a similar incident.
