The Golden 10 Days Of Dhul Hijjah

In the Name of Allaah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

"By the dawn; by the ten nights" Q 89:1-2
All praise be to Allaah Exalted be He, who has created everything. And your Lord creates whatsoever He wills and chooses.

Indeed, Allaah chose Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) among all His creations to be the best, and among people He has chosen his Companions (RA) to be the best of nations and He has chosen Friday to be the best day of the week, Ramadan as the best Month of the year, last ten nights of Ramadan as the best nights, night of Power as the best night and He has chosen the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah as the best days of the world and the best of its days is the day of Sacrifice.

Abdullah ibn Abbas, Abdullah ibn Zubayr, Mujahid ibn Jabar and others among the salaf and latter generations unanimously agreed that 'The ten nights' in Suratul Fajr refers to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

Our days cry out for righteous deeds while the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah beckon to us with a promise of greatness and spiritual opportunities.
The hadith on the strength of Ibn Abbas (RA) from the Prophet (Pbuh) is sufficient for any such individual that needs a reason to take full advantage of these days.

He (Pbuh) said: "There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allaah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of sacrifice." They said, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allaah?" He said, "Not even Jihad for the sake of Allaah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." Sahih Al-Bukhari

Oh he who aspires for greatness in this world and the Hereafter, take advantage of these days by reciting a lot of dhikr (Allaah's remembrance), Tasbeeh (Subhanallaah), Tahmeed (Alhamdulillaah), and Takbeer (Allahu Akbar).
Lest we forget, in these ten days there is a great day (the Day of Arafah) on which Allaah revealed
"This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." Q5:3

Signalling the culmination of Allaah's Favor upon us. On this day those on the plains of Arafah spend their day worshipping Allaah relentlessly while those that are not with them are encouraged to observe sawm (fast) for fasting this day expiates the sins of two years as was reported in an authentic narration from Abu Qataadah.
Kindness to parents, helping those in need, keeping the ties of kinship, forgiving those that have wronged us, engaging in charitable acts, fasting the first nine days, repenting back to Allaah, reviving a Sunnah among others are all recommended acts for those that anticipate these days with keenes and zeal to gain closeness to Allaah.

However, for those that intend to offer a sacrifice they must refrain from cutting their hair and nails and removing anything from the skin when the days set in until they have made sacrifice on the 10th day.

Oh you whose heart has been darkened by sins, do not further plunge it into darkness by committing more sins in this month of Dhul-Hijjah.
Allaah says: "Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourself therein..." Q9:36
These four sacred months are Dhul-Qadah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab.

Imam Qataadah said: "Injustice during the Sacred Months is worse and graver than Injustice in other months. Verily, Injustice is always wrong, but Allaah makes things graver than others as He will." As quoted in Ibn Katheer.

Oh the actively righteous and even the weak ones, take advantage of these days by multiplying your good deeds but in doing so do not also forget that sinning in this month is greater and graver than sinning in other months.

We sincerely seek for Allaah's aid and assistance in order to have the strength and wisdom to live up to our high spiritual aspirations.
